Moving company recommendations + hiring checklist
How to compare quotes, spot red flags, and protect your stuff.
3 moving approaches (choose one)
- Full-service movers: easiest, usually most expensive.
- Container / pod-style: flexible timing, mid-range cost.
- DIY truck + helpers: cheapest, most work.
Quote comparison checklist
- Is the quote binding or estimated?
- Does it include stairs/elevators/long carries?
- What’s the insurance / valuation coverage?
- What are delivery windows and storage fees?
- What’s the cancellation/change policy?
Tip
Ask for the quote in writing with line-item detail. If they won’t provide it, move on.
Red flags
- Huge deposit required up front.
- No physical address, vague contracts, or pressure tactics.
- Price changes without clear reasons.
- Refusal to discuss coverage and claims process.
Hiring questions (copy/paste)
- Are you licensed/registered for cross-border moves?
- Who actually carries the goods—your team or subcontractors?
- How do you handle damages and claims?
- What’s the earliest/latest delivery date range?
Before pickup
- Take photos of valuable items.
- Label boxes by room and priority.
- Keep essentials separate (first-week box).
- Keep your inventory and contract accessible.
